Alan Walker // Different World

(fhp)

Original Full Length Version

At the beginning of 2018 you have already been to Berlin, on 24.2. at Huxley's New World. Was it your first time in town? What was your impression of Berlin? For many musicians of the electronic music Berlin is, also because of Love Parade and the many traditional clubs, a pretty important and inspiring place. Does all this matter for a rather young musician like you, the meaning of Berlin?

I’ve been to Berlin before, but I love the city and the atmosphere each time I visit. I won’t claim that I’ve been part of the club scene, but I’ve definitely heard about the great musical history in the city!

After your club appearances at the beginning of 2018, you also played big German festivals like Airbeat One and SonneMondSterne. How different are such festival gigs from your concerts? Do you still have room for spontaneity in such big productions, or do you always have a fairly clear roadmap of what you will play and when and how?

Festivals are definitely a bit different, because the crowd is more mixed than at an Alan Walker show where the fans are primarily there to see my performance. I’m always able to be impulsive during bigger festival shows as well. But for the majority of my shows, I have an idea of the set based on what I know about the setting, and I also make sure to read the crowd during the beginning of my set or during the set before me if anyone is performing as well. That helps me to adjust my set!

You produce an incredible amount of music and you are working together with even more musicians. What influence do these musicians have on your music? Do you mostly have an already finished result in mind or is there also some feedback and developments through those cooperations, about sounds and structure of the songs or things like these?

That’s true, I like to collab with various people because I truly believe that’s the best way to make music. There is not one specific roadmap for how my songs are made, as each process might be different. But I often have an idea to begin with, that I can share with whoever I’m working with. And other times I might receive a topline from someone and try to work on a production that fits this.

On 14.12. your long awaited debut-album will be released. What can we expect, how long did the whole production and especially the final tracklist take to be finished?

I’ve been working on this for quite some time, and it’s difficult to say when I started. Some of the songs on there have been with me since I first started releasing official singles. I wasn’t sure what I expected to begin with, but I’m very happy with the end product! (fhp)
